I arrived in the predawn to the call of a chuck-wills-widow and settled on this view about 20 minutes before sunrise. It was a lovely scene replete with fish jumping, wading birds squawking, and songbirds singing. The bugs were only a minor distraction; for the first hour or so I was attended by a cloud of no-see-ums and a few mosquitoes but once the sun rose high enough, only the incessant deer flies remained to try my defenses.
