Virtually nothing is left of the prairies that once graced the lowlands around Moulton, Alabama. In this tiny roadside remnant, Alabama larkspur, ragwort, and widow’s cross (a sedum) were on full display. I set up and painted this quick impression right next to the road as commuters made their way to work… hopefully they were wondering why that spot was so special that some guy decided to make a painting of it. Maybe someday this privately owned spot will be protected.
