Perhaps because most of our hike was through the lush, enclosed, sub-canopy of the rainforest, the differing perspective where the trail reached the edge of the Rio Anzu canyon drew my attention. From there, I thought the shaded tree trunks and epiphytes (plants that grow on other plants) made a striking contrast to the moisture laden atmosphere in the canyon below. As a tribute to the Amazonian plants and animals that live in FundaciĆ³n EcoMinga’s Rio Anzu Reserve, I later added a military macaw to the view when I slightly reworked the painting later in my studio.
