Portions of Hwy 138 were buried by lava during eruptions along Kilauea’s Lower East Rift Zone in 2018. I found the views to be otherworldly where the road was rebuilt on top of the 5-year-old ‘A‘ā lava flows. In this view uphill toward the rift zone, cinder cones can be seen on the horizon.
