This scene was painted in a few hours among the black oaks at Illinois Beach State Park. Because of imminent heavy rain, I strung up a tarp where a few oaks stood along a foot path in the Park’s Nature Preserve. From that spot I had a view through the oak savanna toward the lakeshore and the adjacent sand prairie. Gusting winds and crashing waves on nearby Lake Michigan reminded me of painting on the Georgia coast.
