Nighthawks swooped and dove as I explored the evening aspect of Ayers Sand Prairie Preserve. I was looking for compositions that captured the unique sand prairie features but not the adjacent houses. In this June view, anticrepuscular rays meet at the eastern horizon as the sun sets behind me. Darkening bluffs on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River valley contrast with the warm, light tones of the open prairie.
Studio painting.
