I set up as the featured artist with the Illinois State Museum to paint for a day in the First Lady’s tent at the Illinois State Fair. When I heard that Smokey Bear might stop by, I chose an imagined prescribed fire as the subject for a quick painting. Nowadays, Smokey understands that prescribed fire is good fire – not like back in the day, so I figured he’d like it. He did!
