Even with cactuses, sand blowouts, and views to the distant horizon to capture my imagination, it was the striking color contrast of warm oak leaves and grasses and snow remaining in the cool shadows that I felt were the most photo-worthy—and later, painting-worthy—on my November 2018 visit to this Nature Preserve.
