In this final field painting from my August visit, I wondered what the rolling landscape would have looked like long ago, before wild fires suppression and red pine plantations. Interestingly, the extensive removal of planted pine for golf course construction, plus the course’s restoration of large sand prairies and barrens made this reimagining easier. As in the other three field paintings from this visit, atmospheric smoke from Canadian wildfires tints the view of Sand Valley… as it might have many times through the ages.
