As the day ended on my spring visit to Foley Sand Prairie, I noticed that the textures and colors were becoming more interesting in the half of the Preserve that had not been burned during the previous fire season. In the dimming light I hoped to capture a view of the last two clouds of the day floating above the tawny stems of last year’s grasses and the deepening green of the new year’s growth. Darkness (and dew) fell soon after I started, so I finished later in my studio.
Painted on location. Touched up in the studio, May 2022.
