Marsh Trail

Little St. Simons Island, Georgia
March 17, 2018
Oil on canvas
9 x 11 in. (22.9 x 27.9 cm)

Private collection

Out early, looking for compositions in one the island’s secluded salt marshes, I was struck by the subdued warmth of morning light on both clouds and marsh vegetation. The enticing curve of a racoon trail leading to a prominent clump of wax myrtles was the perfect compositional element to inspire a quick exploration of these transitory colors in oil on canvas. Painted on location. Canvas mounted to hardboard.
