Sunset with Bugs

Little St. Simons Island, Georgia
March 16, 2018
Oil and midges on canvas
9 x 11 in. (22.9 x 27.9 cm)

Private collection

As the sun set, a cloud of biting midges (no-see-ums) rose from the marsh grasses to “help” me paint. After about 20 minutes of accumulating on the wet paint, they gave the sky the appearance it has sometimes on Little St. Simons when thousands of tree swallows fill the skies. Canvas mounted to hardboard.
