Mosquito Creek Study, Fall

Little St. Simons Island, Georgia
October 12, 2011
Oil on paper
6 x 7.5 in. (15.2 x 19.1 cm)

Private collection

In this painting, executed very quickly as the sun went down, I hoped to capture the effect of the light in one of the island’s beautiful stands of pink muhly grass. Muhly grass, which is used to make sweet grass baskets, was in full bloom on that October evening. Painted on location.
