July, 2013 – The Royal Oak

Twenty years after I painted this little image, I had the idea that Google might help me remember the name and location of the pub. Though I had long ago forgotten those details, I still fondly remember the publican allowing me to take a bar stool and a pint across the street to a little grassy area where I set up to paint this picture. Those were some fine days spent in Buckinghamshire. I can thank my friends the Butterys for that.

Google’s image search for “Buckinghamshire pubs “ turned up rather a lot of inviting establishments, but I eventually spotted one with the same number of gables and chimneys. It’s nice to see in Google’s Street View from 2013 that things haven’t changed much. I imagine it is still a fine place to visit.
