Philip Juras: The Southern Frontier
Landscapes Inspired by Bartram's Travels
Telfair Books

This 128 page book is published by the Telfair Museums and distributed by the University of Georgia Press.  Creating this book (and the exhibit) with the Telfair has truly been an amazing experience and I can’t thank the contributors enough. Holly Koons McCullough (Telfair) and Dorinda G. Dallmeyer (UGA) have written wonderful essays on how my paintings relate to the American landscape movement and the legacy of William Bartram, Janisse Ray has contributed a moving reflection on the subject of the work, and Steven High, director of the Telfair, has contributed the foreword. For my part, I’ve written about the historical and ecological background of the paintings in the exhibit.  All 68 are beautifully reproduced inside. Many thanks to Georgia Sea Grant, Betty and Hubert Gilmore, the Wormsloe Institute for Environment and History, and Craig and Diana Barrow for their support.

Bartram's Living Legacy
The Travels and the Nature of the South

Edited by Dorinda Dallmeyer
Mercer University Press

Being invited by Dorinda Dallmeyer and Phil Williams to be part of this book is really where the "Bartram Project" takes off for me. It is truly a great honor to be published alongside Bartram's Travels and essays by 16 of the South's finest nature writers. Not only is my painting of Anthony Shoals on the cover, but I have also contributed an essay with 16 images and background information. Click on the image to learn more.

The Flower Seeker
by Philip Lee Williams
Mercer University Press

While my involvement in this amazing epic poem on Bartram by Philip Lee Williams is limited to the image on the cover of the book, Philip Lee Williams is certainly very much a part of my own exploration of Bartram. Indeed,  the recreated scene of the Keowee Valley, the cover image, is inspired as much by Phil as by Bartram.  At the location depicted in this scene, Phil helped his father excavate the site of Fort Prince George just before the waters of the Keowee reservoir inundated the valley.
